Nearly thirty
years ago, a young couple from Colorado was saying their vows in front of
family and friends. That couple went on to living out a life only some could
dream of...

Jay and Rhonda met
in High School, after Jay graduated it was either a career in Football or
Rodeo, he chose Rodeo… he went to CSU in Pueblo Colorado and was on the Rodeo
Team and won numerous college titles for them, then shortly after that he was
asked to come to the Famous King Ranch in Kingsville, Texas and get 30 head of
horses ready for a sale, he did and then stayed on breaking 2 year olds and
getting them started on cattle, he worked for Mr. Joe Stiles horse manager of
the King Ranch, once they saw his talent they shipped him off to stay with
Buster Welch and learn about training cutting horses. After a few years, Jay
decided that’s what he wanted to do. In 1983 Jay and Rhonda were married and
while Jay was training horses at the King Ranch, Rhonda was going to school and
working at the newspaper.

In May of 1988
Mike Sanders from Fort Myers, Florida purchased a large group of horses from
the King Ranch Remuda Sale, and asked Jay and Rhonda to come to Florida and
train horses for him and his family….That journey led them all the way to Alva,
Florida. Mr. Mike saw the determination, and talent that Jay had, day after
day, those horses got better, with time and patience and Jay trained a lot of
good horses for the Sanders family. Years later Jay and Rhonda decided to go
out on their own and moved to Arcadia, Florida with the help of Mike Sanders,
K.O. Welles and the Lawrence family Jay and Rhonda opened the doors to Jay
Holmes Performance Horses. Still working with cutting horses he started
training rope horses again and got introduced to the Reined Cow Horse event…
Jay loved the event…. new to Florida everyone had a lot to learn about reined
cow horses. Long time friend Robbie Schroeder from Gainesville, Texas was a
great friend and AQHA Professional Horseman who was a tremendous help getting
Jay started in the right direction…

His kind ability
with the horses and their success got them noticed by Mary H. Clark of
Sarasota, Florida. In 1998 Jay and Rhonda moved to Sarasota, Florida and
started managing and training for the Triple J Ranch. At the time Ms. Mary had
halter and pleasure horses and a great stallion named Photon. Jay saw the
talent in the babies and switched from halter and pleasure to Roping, Cutting,
Reined Cow Horses, Reining the Western events….

Seeing the
possibilities with these horses and with Jay and Rhonda, Ms. Mary, knew they
had something special. Photon sired horses for the Triple J Ranch that have won
11 AQHA World Championships, producing 8 World Champions, 6 Reserve World
Championships and 5 Reserve World Championships… His foals earned over 12,045.5
in AQHA points with AQHA Incentive earnings over $250,000.00 not bad for a
Halter stallion…. That also produced foals that had won over $18,000.00 in the

Then one day
Robbie Schroeder came down to Florida for some horse shows and brought down a
three-year-old stud. This colt instantly caught Jay’s and Ms. Mary’s eye, not
only was he beautiful but he had the look of a Champion. His sire the great
Hollywood Dun It and out of the legendary mare Genuine Redbud made them think
this would be a great outcross with our Photon mares, This stud had so much
talent; Jay decided to see if Mary would like to acquire the pretty buckskin
for their breeding program. One look at this special horse and Ms. Mary
insisted that they buy him. So they did. God knew that this small family of
three and Ms. Mary needed this stud colt as much as he needed them. Dun It Big
blessed their lives every day, from taking Jay to his first NRCHA World
Championship in the Open Hackamore, to another one in the Open Bridle for the
NRCHA and then in 2008 won the Sr. Heeling at the AQHA World Championship show.
He also took Morgan to a NRCHA Reserve World Championship in the Limited Non
Pro Bridle.

The great team of
Jay and Dun It Big won over $75,732.00 in the NRCHA and another $38,946.00 in
the AQHA.

Big sired foals that have won over $139,515.00 in the NRCHA, $28,968.00 in the
NRHA. Producing some of the top Reined Cow Horses in the country…

In 2014 Dun It Big
was sold to the Orfice family in Brazil, where he later passed. He did more for
this family and ranch than anyone can even imagine, he was loved by so many and
his legacy will continue, keeping some frozen semen for Jay and Rhonda’s
personal horses, they are breeding him to the beautiful Photon mares that have
taken Jay, Rhonda and Morgan to numerous World Titles and hundreds of AQHA
points, and lots of money won on them in both the Show pen and Roping arenas…
Triple J Ranch is now standing two very talented young stallions, Ima Downtown
Cat, Junkyard Cat, Young Tio and a Dun It Big son Finish Big, which are booking
now for the 2016 breeding season.

With such talent
with the horses and people, Jay and Rhonda are a great team. Jay an AQHA
Professional Horseman, World Champion in the NRCHA and AQHA, a winner in the
USTRC and the WSTR arenas and with lifetime winnings topping over  HALF A
MILLION DOLLARS, this is just one reason why Ms. Mary was so happy with the
couple she choose to manage Triple J Ranch. The other reason was Rhonda, also a
top competitor in the AQHA with numerous wins and the NRCHA where she sits at
#23 for lifetime Non Pro Rider earnings, she took off a few years so she could
take Morgan on the Rodeo trail… Since then she has started up roping at the
USTRC and World Series of Team Ropings… and starting to show cow horses again.
This dynamic duo along with Morgan have Ms. Mary proud and happy to take over
the reins of Triple J Ranch.

The ranch has seen
so many improvements over the years: There are 2 covered arenas, one is 125 x
325 the other is 125 x 100, an outdoor arena, outdoor round pen, Priefert 8
horse walker, 100 show stalls, Cantina, 2 show offices with viewing stands, 25
RV sites, 5 Vip RV sites, Cattle pens the list goes on and on….. Besides the
ranch being used for Jay to train horses and give lessons out of, they also
lease the facility to host numerous horse events; many associations call it
their home, like the Gulf Coast Horse Show Association. They host many events
here for the NRCHA, NRHA, AQHA, USTRC, WSTR, The Sunshine Open Horse Show
Series, the local Miniature Horse show association and the ALPHA Western
Dressage events. Jay and Rhonda and their crew take pride in making Triple J
Ranch one of the premier horse facilities in the South East. Rhonda works
tirelessly making sure that the ranch is kept well groomed for the shows that
are hosted at the facility, and Jay is always preparing to upgrade the arenas,
ground, and working areas. This ranch is not just a top notch horse facility
and training facility, it is also their home……
